Introduction
Thanks for your interest in participating in a flash mob this Sunday! (26 Feb) Please get all your dancing friends involved, the more we have the better it will be.
So far the forecast is ok. 18 max, and potentially some morning rain, but I'm sure it will be great weather for dancing.
This will be a great chance to test out our new routine of beginners moves and polish our Flash Mob technique for other Cerocers to join us for an even larger attempt in April in conjunction with our Super Ceroc weekend.
What is a Flash Mob?
A Flash Mob is a group of people who appear to spontaneously do something unexpected in public like dance, sing or play statues. It is most effective when done in unison by a group of people who appear to be unrelated in any way, they unite for a couple of minutes and then suddenly they dissipate into the crowd again.
It sounds like fun to do and should be entertaining for onlookers.
We need YOU!
We need dancers as well as a few sneaky photographers who can video the event from different angles. If you are interested in being there in any role please email me so I can add you to a mailing list with all the details, a link to a video of the routine, etc.
So far we have lot sof ladies and a few guys.... w ereally need a bunch more guys, so girls try to talk as many into it as you can! Ideally have a partner, but I also expect lots of people to turn up without partners and we'll partner up at the practice on Sunday.
Details:
We are going to practise and allocate partners and details at Peebles Reserve and then flash as a mob at Riccarton Markets
in the Food Court area. They have a band playing there but the organisers of the markets will let them know that we have permission to do something when they stop to have a break around midday.
MAP: Peebles Reserve and Riccarton Markets on Google maps
WHEN: Sunday 26 Feb 2012
Meet at 11.20am, practise at 11.30 at Peebles Reserve
To dance at approx 12pm at Riccarton Markets
WEAR: Anything you like. We are supposed to look like just random people at the market.
We will be dancing on grass, potentially a bit damp, so think about what will be best on your feet.
If you are carrying anything be prepared to put it down. Ideally ask a non-dancing friend to hold it for you, perhaps look for a spot to drop things down near the stereo, but we'd like to be able to pick up and walk off again immediately at the end.
THE PLAN FOR THE PERFORMANCE...
Everybody is roaming around in the crowd looking like ordinary shoppers
Somebody will plant the music and hit play
One couple will meet and start dancing
Then 3 more couples join in 2nd time through
and so on until everyone has joined in for the "bridge" i.e. put your hands up etc and all dance through whole routine last time through
Music finishes and we all wander off randomly again
Learn this routine...
first move
break thru
mans comb (catch right hand)
shoulder block
ceroc spin
basket
slidebreak (& return to left hand)
NOTES:
- We need to keep as close to eachother when dancing as possible. A tight group will look more effective
- Need to try to keep in time and facing the same direction, i.e. all men on the same side
- Pointing for "you make me feel good" should be at people watching except for last one which is at your partner
- The "bridge" in the music should be done by the girls first, then the guys - i.e. girls "put your hands up", then guys "put your hands up"
- when the girls stand and put hands out for stop signs on "make my world stop" they should have their back to their partner, then the guys do it and stand back to back with partner.
Thanks to Harry for doing this video of the routine and the captions etc.
