Introduction
Nowadays nearly everyone who surfs the world wide web is usually concerned with how safe the internet really is.
Here at Ceroc Christchurch we take online security very seriously and we have probably invested more time and money than
any other dance school in Australasia maybe even the world! Below are just some of the areas where we look after you.
Encryption - https v. http
We have invested in something called an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate which is installed on our website.
This means that all the forms where you enter personal information are equipped with encryption so that other people cannot intercept and
read your data. By the way, Facebook does not use encryption much to the pleasure of identity thieves.
You'll notice that the prefix to our website when using forms is "https:"
Many web browsers also show a padlock to show that the connection is secure.
This is the same as when you use online banking. Any website that asks you to enter an email
address or any other information without the https prefix should not be
trusted as they are not concerned with protecting your private data.
Our Online Database
We use an online database to store your and our personal details. As part of the Privacy Act you have a right to
know what information we store. Please contact us if you would like more information.
More of Deb and Matt's personal information is stored than anyone else's -
if it's good enough for us then hopefully it's good enough for you :)
The database itself is password protected and it lies in a password protected folder and cannot be accessed externally from the web.
The database is accessed by a ASP.NET application residing on the web server and is written by Matt.
Matt has worked professionally for many years in the electronics industry from small backyard companies to
large multinational corporations where even the smallest of design glitches can cost millions of dollars.
ASP.NET basically allows for good secure websites and is used around the world for online shopping.
Web Hosting
We use Net24 who are based right here in Christchurch. They do not rent web space off larger ISP's as they have
their own secure Data Centre. They are also used by Airways who are responsible for all air traffic within
New Zealand's air traffic control territory = they are reliable.
Accountability
We are probably one of the few organisations you are ever likely to deal with where you actually get to meet
the people responsible for your personal information. Most companies and websites you use are run by people you will never meet.
What a difference it makes when you actually know (and dance with) the people
who manage so many aspects of your interaction and communication with us.
