Musical Moves

Deb and Matt are well known in the NZ Ceroc competition scene for their musical interpretation when they dance and place regularly in Advanced A. See a video of our dancing at the bottom of the page. This video illustrates Matt's skilful choice of moves appropriate to the music even under pressure in freestyle competition and Deb’s responsiveness to adapt the movement according to what she can hear. This stuff is really fun and we want to help you learn to develop these skills too through this new workshop.

Is this similar to the musicality workshop?

This is a slightly different workshop. We address musicality but in a different way. You will learn or re-learn some moves you may have done and we'll make them really fit to and express the music. This means you will really feel what musicality is and also have some handy moves up your sleeve to pull out for adding musicality to your freestyle.

Am I at the right level to do it?

The workshop will be aimed at any intermediates who can freestyle comfortably. We'll use a range of moves from simple beginner level up through intermediate, and one a little bit challenging for added spice. The emphasis will be on creating movement to match the music, not how hard the moves are.

Deb and Matt's Slow Dance, Advanced A Final, Auckland East & South Champs 2009

This is the dance that gave rise to this workshop, people told us we just looked different compared with everyone else. Right from the start we aimed to reflect the mood and musicality of this lovely song (we placed 2nd overall).
